Children cystitis

Whereas in the treatment of interstitial cystitis methylsulfonylmethane seems to be more effective than dimethylsulfone because of its better inhibition of cell growth (Layman 1987, Childs 1994), chronic bronchitis was treated with N-acetylcysteine in humans (Stey et al. 2000).

A 38-year-old woman was seen as an emergency patient in the clinic. She reported fever, chills, and pain in her back, as well as urinary frequency. This had developed over the previous 24 hours. She did not recall any previous incidents that were similar. Her past history was positive for multiple incidents of cystitis as a child and occasional bouts of dysuria and frequency of urination over the past 3 to 4 years. She had seen her physician for these and was placed on antibiotics for relief. She often medicated herself for these symptoms. She had no other major illnesses or surgery and had two pregnancies that were uneventful. She stated that her menstrual cycles were regular and that she did not take oral contraceptives.
