Chick antidermatitis factor

Common Name Achromothrichiefaktor Acidum pantothenicum Chick antidermatitis factor Filtrat-Faktor Kueken-Antidermatitis-Faktor Pantothenic acid Pantothensaeure... [Pg.2610]

Pantothenic Acid. (R)-V-r2>4-Dihydroxy-3,3-di-methyl-l-oxobutyll-B -alanine D(+)-/V-(2,4-dihydroxy-3,3-dimethy1butyryl)-d-alanine chick antidermatitis factor. C--HjjNO, mol wt 219.23, C 49.30%, H 7.82%, N 6.39%, O 36.49%, A member of the B complex vitamins. Occurs everywhere in animal and plant tissue. The richest common source is liver, but jelly of the queen bee contains 6 times as much as liver. Rice bran and molasses are other good sources. Isoln from liver R. J. Williams ei at, J. Am. [Pg.1110]

Woolley, D.W., Waisman, G.A., and Elvehjem, C.A., 1939. Studies on the structure of the chick antidermatitis factor. Journal of Biological Chemistry. 129 673-679. [Pg.52]

Before its structure was known, pantothenic acid was called by several other names, now obsolete, including filtrate factor, chick antidermatitis factor, bios factor, the anti-gray hair factor, pantothen, factor H, factor 2, vitamin B-x, vitamin B-2, vitamin B-3. [Pg.827]

Shortly after the identification of pantothenic acid with the chick antidermatitis factor (96) and as a necessary vitamin for the rat (97), evidence for its synthesis was reported in the rumen of ewes (49), cows (68), and calves (51). This synthesis is evidently appreciable since the pantothenic acid output in milk alone was about twice the intake (68). Pseudomonas fiuorescens, Proteus vulgaris, and Clostridium butylicum were found to synthesize pantothenic acid in a pure medium (65). [Pg.29]

In 1901. Wildiers described Bios, an essential for yeast growth. In 1933. Williams isolated crystalline Bios from yeast and named it pantorhemc acid. In 1938, Williams isolated pantothenic acid from liver and. in 1939, Jukes determined liver antidermatitis factor (chick) to be identical with yeast factor. Also, in 1939, Woolley et al. demonstrated beta-alanine as a vital part of pantothenic add ... [Pg.1204]
