Chemical properties methylene derivatives

The introduction of perfluorinated groups generally favors microphase separation due to the immiscibility of fluorocarbons with hydrocarbons [66]. Norbornene derivatives with perfluorinated endgroups in the side chain were prepared by Wewerka et al. [67]. Monomer XII contained a relatively long (CF2)8-chain, separated via a long spacer (11 methylene-groups) from the norbornene, whereas monomer XIII has two relatively short (CH2)2(CF2)4-side chains (Fig. 11). Homopolymers and block copolymers were synthesized with one fluorinated monomer (XII or XIII) and one non-fluorinated non-liquid crystalline monomer (NBDE or COEN) with the Schrock-type initiators 4 and 5, respectively, leading to microphase-separated block copolymers. Table 9 and Table 10 summarize the physico-chemical properties of the homopolymers and block copolymers. [Pg.65]

Chiral shift reagents are also tris jS-diketonates based on d-camphor as the chiral moiety. Whitesides and Lewis (1970) introduced the tm[3-(rerf-butyl-hydroxy-methylene)-d-camphorato] europium. It is more soluble in organic solvents than Eu(dpm)3 with otherwise similar chemical properties. Fraser et al. (1971) prepared a fluorinated derivative anticipating advantages similar to those of R(fod)3 relative to R(dpm)3. Indeed their fWs[3-(heptafluoropropyl hydroxy-methylene)-d-camphorato] europium induces larger chemical shift differences between enantiomers in most of the cases. Even larger differences were obtained with fn. 5[3-trifluoromethyl-hydroxymethylene)-d-camphorato] europium (Goer-ing et al., 1971). [Pg.511]

Miscellaneous Derivatives. Fimehc acid is used as an intermediate in some pharmaceuticals and in aroma chemicals ethylene brassylate is a synthetic musk (114). Salts of the diacids have shown utUity as surfactants and as corrosion inhibitors. The alkaline, ammonium, or organoamine salts of glutaric acid (115) or C-5—C-16 diacids (116) are useflil as noncorrosive components for antifreeze formulations, as are methylene azelaic acid and its alkah metal salt (117). Salts derived from C-21 diacids are used primarily as surfactants and find apphcation in detergents, fabric softeners, metal working fluids, and lubricants (118). The salts of the unsaturated C-20 diacid also exhibit anticorrosion properties, and the sodium salts of the branched C-20 diacids have the abUity to complex heavy metals from dilute aqueous solutions (88). [Pg.64]

Bradshaw et al. have disclosed a rapid and facile method for the dereplication of a purified natural product library [58]. The method integrates the molecular weight from low resolution MS data with the exact count of the number of methyl, methylene and methine groups obtained from ]H-13C NMR correlation data. Those structure properties were converted into a searchable text file that could be downloaded into a customized software program with chemical structure information in a specific format - SMILES. In the program, more than 120,000 unique structures were derived from commercial databases, such as Dictionary of Natural Products and Beilstein. [Pg.668]
