So far we have exclusively discussed time-resolved absorption spectroscopy with visible femtosecond pulses. It has become recently feasible to perfomi time-resolved spectroscopy with femtosecond IR pulses. Flochstrasser and co-workers [M, 150. 151. 152. 153. 154. 155. 156 and 157] have worked out methods to employ IR pulses to monitor chemical reactions following electronic excitation by visible pump pulses these methods were applied in work on the light-initiated charge-transfer reactions that occur in the photosynthetic reaction centre [156. 157] and on the excited-state isomerization of tlie retinal pigment in bacteriorhodopsin [155]. Walker and co-workers [158] have recently used femtosecond IR spectroscopy to study vibrational dynamics associated with intramolecular charge transfer these studies are complementary to those perfomied by Barbara and co-workers [159. 160], in which ground-state RISRS wavepackets were monitored using a dynamic-absorption technique with visible pulses. [Pg.1982]

Minimal END has also been applied to a model system for intramolecular electron transfer. The small triatomic system LiHLi is bent C2v structure. But the linear structure presents an unrestricted Haiti ee-Fock (TJHF) broken symmetry solution with the two charge localized stmctures... [Pg.245]

An intramolecular charge transfer toward C-5 has been proposed (77) to rationalize the ultraviolet spectra observed for 2-amino-5-R-thiazoles where R is a strong electron attractor. Ultraviolet spectra of a series of 2-amino-4-p-R-phenylthiazoles (12) and 2-amino-5-p-R-phenylthiazoles (13) were recorded in alcoholic solution (73), but, reported in an article on pK studies, remained undiscussed. Solvent effects on absorption spectra of 2-acetamido and 2-aminothiazoles have been studied (92). [Pg.21]

The same tertiary carbocation serves as the precursor to numerous bicyclic monoterpenes A carbocation having a bicychc skeleton is formed by intramolecular attack of the rr electrons of the double bond on the positively charged carbon... [Pg.1090]

The next important phenomena that the result of supramolecular effect are the concentration and proximity effects concerning the components of analytical reaction, even through they are considerably different in hydrophobicity, charge of the species, complexing or collisional type of interaction. The concentration and proximity effects determine the equilibrium of analytical reaction, the efficiencies of intramolecular or intermolecular electronic energy or electron transfer and as a result the sensitivity of analytical reactions. [Pg.417]

Deviations from this generalization may have several sources, including charge repulsion, steric effects, statistical factors, intramolecular hydrogen bonding, and other structural effects that alter electron density at the reaction site. Hague - ° P has discussed these effects. [Pg.150]

Intramolecular ionic bonds between oppositely charged groups on amino acid residues in a protein... [Pg.17]

The favorability of acid-base reactions is affected, in pa by electrostatic interactions between charged atoms a dipoles within the same molecule. The equilibrium w shift in the direction of an ion that is stabilized 1 intramolecular ion-dipole interactions. [Pg.54]

In view of the importance of water in chemistry and biology, there have been many attempts to construct simple yet effective intramolecular potentials for water molecules. Water monomers are traditionally left rigid. The early three-site model for water took positive charges on the hydrogens ( h) and a negative charge (qo = on the oxygen, and wrote the pair potential between two... [Pg.67]

The combination of positive and negative charges within the same molecule causes a more complicated situation, which obviously has not been well-defined to date. A quite large number of pyrrolizidine alkaloids are related to Otonecine (8) (Scheme 3). Spectroscopic investigations show that these alkaloids exist in the nonionized form in CDCI3, and in the zwitterionic form in D2O (00JNP857, 71TL3421). The dipolar structure is the result of an intramolecular interaction between a nucleophilic and an electrophilic center. [Pg.70]

Mn(acac)3 in the above mechanism undergoes an intramolecular photooxidation-reduction reaction arising from the ligand to metal charge transfer process (LMCT). [Pg.248]

A large red shift observed in polar solvents was indicative of the intramolecular charge transfer character of the triplet state. The change of dipole moment accompanying the transition Tj - Tn, as well as rate constants for electron and proton transfer reactions involving the T state of a-nitronaphthalene, were determined. The lower reactivity in polar solvents was attributed to a reduced n-n and increased charge transfer character of the triplet state... [Pg.737]
