Channels, four operating modes

Dil man et al [8] developed a model of fluid movement in a channel with permeable walls from the macroscopic mechanical energy balance. This was later extended to apply to a radial-flow reactor by Genkin et al [3] for the CF-flow case. The equations were valid for isothermal incompressible flow in a horizontal cylindrical channel they were extended by Kaye [5] to eliminate the restriction to a horizontal tube and to cover all four operating modes. Chang and Calo [2] have also presented an extension to include both axial and radial flow in the catalyst bed, although they concluded that axial flow was small.

Each transputer is a microprocessor with its own memory banks and its own built-in operating mode similar to a conventional microprocessor, but a transputer has additional input and output channels enabling it to communicate with other transputers. For example, in one simple mode, five transputers could be coupled so that four of them were carrying out operations at the same time (in parallel) but controlled by the fifth. 

The console also Includes drive controls for the reactor s four safely blades, a legulahiig rod. and a transient rod. Blade and rod drive positions are coded as proportional 0 to -t-lO vok signals and displayed by voltmeter circuits. The console has logic circuits to Interlock the operablllly of the drives with conditions set by the power channels according to the operational mode selected The console also has a servo system Unking the regulating rod drive with one td the power channels.

Reaction testing was initiated by enabling the microreactor heaters and setting the heaters either in manual or automatic control mode. In the manual control mode, the operator set the microreactor heater voltages. While in the automatic control mode, the operator could set the desired microreactor heater temperature. The product gas compositions were determined from each of the four reactor channels.
