Channel master

Wal-Mart and Dell are widely recognized supply chain success models. Both have pursued low-cost models and are channel masters in their industries. In fact, some tire of hearing their names over and over again. Also, one might reasonably question whether a channel master that can dictate terms is really an example of a collaborative relationship. However, a collaborative relationship does not necessarily mean easy. ... 

The next drivers for systems improvements will be gaining strategic value in addition to financial returns from the technology. For example, a driver for a technology such as RFID (radio frequency identification) is the need to comply with mles from channel masters Wal-Mart and the Department of Defense. 

Channel master The single, most powerful company in a supply chain. The channel master dictates terms of trade for the channel. The presence of a master depends on the nature of the industry and competition. Charmel mastery is often the goal of SCM programs. 

This firm went further with its diagnostic efforts and listed the top ten systems issues, as illustrated in Figure 2.8. The firm took the time to determine where systems enabling was missing and where such capability would improve the current situation. The result was a clear road map for how this firm would move from its present Level 2+ position to one of an electronic nature, which would differentiate it in the marketplace. This company went on to become a supply chain channel master, or what we term a nucleus firm, driving the network changes it determined were required. 

The supply chain may transfomi in two possible ways. It may splinter into supply chains for mass producers of generics and traditional drugs, and the supply chain for the new innovative drugs that would be very asset intensive and a lot riskier than the traditional supply chains. The supply chain can also transform by creating a new intermediary, the so called channel master . The channel master would control the design, R D, and the markets of new dmgs and get independent manufacturers to produce them (both traditional and innovative drugs) and dehver them to retailers, just as Cisco does in the telecommunication industry. 

In addition, for our models presented here we make the assumption that the supply chain is distributed globally and each player within the chain has its own goals, policies and eultures. The channel master who occupies a dominant position in the ehain has all the information on its partners. 

We propose an integer quadratic programming model for partner selection that tries to minimize the overall cost impact from the deviation in supplier costs. Such a model will be very useftil to supply chain owners and channel masters. The model is an adaptation of the Markowitz model for financial portfolio management, for the purpose of managing a portfolio of suppliers. For this model, we define the impact in terms of the risk as given by the deviation of the total supply ehain cost from its expected mean value. Given the expected costs and the variability of costs for all suppliers and manufacturers the objective is to ehoose a set of suppliers and manufacturers that minimize the expected cost of operating the entire supply chain and at the same time minimize the risk of variations in the total supply chain cost. The selection of these partners also considers the allocation of orders between these selected partners.

The DSP-16 can either be a master (called active in DSP-16 terminology) or a slave ( passive ). All the DSP-16s except the final mix DSP are in passive mode. They are fed clocks from the final mix DSP. This guarantees that all DSPs are on the same output clock. The final mix DSP also provides the left/right clock so that the channels are synchronized as well. The serial data output of the DSP-16 is fed to the serial data input of the next DSP-16 in line. All of the serial I/O is done via flat ribbon cables on the end of the cards.
