By analogy to the formation of 1, heterocyclic silicon chalcogen derivatives can be synthesised by the reaction of bifunctional silicon halogen compounds RR SiCl2 with Na2E (Eq. 3). [Pg.532]

Figure 2 shows all three basic structure types of the solid chalco-gen(IV) halides. Three characteristic structural and bonding features of the halogen compounds of the chalcogen(IV) systems, in which the role... [Pg.237]

A novel class of chalcogen(II) halogen compounds was established recently by the preparation of the first simple binary mononuclear and oligomeric haloanions of divalent selenium and tellurium. The chemistry of these compounds is especially variable for selenium, and a number of highly interesting mono-, di-, tri, tetra- and pentanuclear anionic species with composition X Ym have been synthesized and characterized by structure analyses and spectroscopic studies up... [Pg.280]

All of the members of the final review team contributed, if not text, then comments to all of the chapters of the book. Their primary responsibilities for the different sections/chapters were divided as follows. Paul Brown prepared the introduction, and the sections on elemental zirconium, the zirconyl ion, the gaseous zirconium oxides, zirconium hydride, the halogen compounds and complexes, the chalcogen compounds and complexes, the Group 15 compounds and complexes, zirconium carbides and silicates. He was assisted by Christian Ekberg in the interpretation of aqueous zirconium complexes in these sections. Some initial work was done by Ken Jackson on the zirconium sulphate, nitrate and phosphate compounds and complexes. Bernd Grambow was responsible for the drafting of the sections on zirconium hydrolysis, the ion and the section on crystalline and amorphous zirconium oxides. Enzo Curti drafted the section on the zirconium carbonates. [Pg.519]

Carbon forms binary compounds with most elements those with metals are considered in this section whilst those with H, the halogens, O, and the chalcogens are discussed in subsequent sections. Alkali metal fullerides and encapsulated (endohedral) metallafullerenes have already been considered (pp. 285, 288 respectively) and met-allacarbohedrenes (metcars) will be dealt with later in this section (p. 300). Silicon carbide is discussed on p. 334. General methods of preparation of metal carbides are ... [Pg.297]

For these three elements, for the first time in this Chapter, combinations of a nonmetal with chalcogens and halogens have to be discussed. As regards their structure and properties, most of these do not belong to the field of this review as described in the introductory Chapter. For those interested in the ternary carbon compounds that have the composition CSX2 (X = Cl, Br, I), information may be found in an issue of "Gmelin (142). [Pg.389]
