Cerium coating

E. Banczek, S. Moraes, S. Assis, I. Costa, and A. Motheo, Effect of surface treatments based on self-assembling molecules and cerium coatings on the AA3003 alloy corrosion resistance, Materials and Corrosion, vol. 64, pp. 199-206, 2011. [Pg.105]

The activation of the nanoparticles with cerium ions led to a large increase in the total impedance of the system. For example, after 1 day of immersion, the total impedance of the CeOz plus cerium coatings formed on galvanised steel (Fig. 3.11) was more than one order of magnitude higher compared to that of a coating modified with Ce02 only (Fig. 3.10). A small increase in impedance values was also observed for films filled with SiOz. [Pg.56]

Praseodymium is soft, silvery, malleable, and ductile. It is somewhat more resistant to corrosion in air than europium, lanthanum, cerium, or neodymium, but it does develop a green oxide coating that spalls off when exposed to air. As with other rare-earth metals, it should be kept under a light mineral oil or sealed in plastic. [Pg.180]

Optical Coatings. Thin surface coatings are appHed to optical components to improve performance. Wideband antireflection coatings for the visible and ir regions need materials with a refractive iadex of for the best efficieacy. Cerium fluoride, a stable material resistant to humidity damage, has a suitable iadex, 1.63 ia the visible, 1.59 ia the iafrared, and is transparent over the range 0.5 p.m to 5 p.m. It is one of the compounds used to build up the multilayers deposited on lenses, sensors, and the like. [Pg.370]

Cerium/Rare Earth. Cerium 2-ethyIhexanoate [56797-01-4] and rare-earth driers promote polymerization and through dry. Like iron they are active at elevated temperature and, since they do not contribute to film discoloration, are recommended for white bake finishes and overprint varnishes where color is critical. Rare earths also find use at the other end of the temperature spectmm in coatings dried at low temperature and high humidity. [Pg.221]

Cerium(IV) oxide is used to coat interior surfaces of self-cleaning ovens, where it prevents the build-up of tar deposits. [Pg.147]

A serious drawback is the large amount of CAN (up to 2.5 molar amounts) needed. Cerium salts are highly toxic pollutants and must be removed from industrial effluents and wastewaters. Cerium (III) solutions from penem pilot plant solutions containing up to 1.2 M Ce(III) were recycled in a two compartment Electro Syn Cell. Typical recycling conditions Nation diaphragm with coated Ti-anode, applied current densities = 50-150 A/em2 yield > 90% processed amount about 475 kg CAN [46,126,136,137], The simultaneous determination of Ce(III) and Ce(IV) in the pilot plant solution and in solid CAN can be performed polarographically. As little as 0.3% Ce(NH4)2(N03)5 can be determined in Ce(NH4)2(N03)6 [136]. [Pg.163]

The compound cerium oxide (either Ce Oj or CeO ) is used to coat the inside of ovens because it was discovered that food cannot stick to oven walls that are coated with cerium oxide. Cerium compounds are used as electrodes in high-intensity lamps and film projectors used by the motion picture industry. Cerium is also used in the manufacturing and polishing of high-refraction lenses for cameras and telescopes and in the manufacture of incandescent lantern mantles. It additionally acts as a chemical reagent, a misch metal, and a chemical catalyst. Cerium halides are an important component of the textile and photographic industries, as an additive to other metals, and in automobile catalytic converters. Cerium is also used as an alloy to make special steel for jet engines, solid-state instruments, and rocket propellants. [Pg.281]

The ACC is a stainless steel cylinder 3 in. in diameter and 1 ft long through which exhaust gases pass before they enter the muffler and tailpipe. The converter contains an extmded ceramic honeycomb stmcture with square pores 0.5 mm in diameter through which gases pass. The walls of these pores are coated with porous y-Al203 on which Pt, Pd, and Rh are deposited, along with several catalyst promoters such as cerium oxide. The residence time in the ACC is -0.05 sec, because the volume of gas that must be processed... [Pg.292]

Precipitation of the coating from aqueous solutions onto the suspended Ti02 particles. Batch processes in stirred tanks are preferred various compounds are deposited one after the other under optimum conditions. There is a very extensive patent literature on this subject. Continuous precipitation is sometimes used in mixing lines or cascades of stirred tanks. Coatings of widely differing compounds are produced in a variety of sequences. The most common are oxides, oxide hydrates, silicates, and/or phosphates of titanium, zirconium, silicon, and aluminum. For special applications, boron, tin, zinc, cerium, manganese, antimony, or vanadium compounds can be used [2.40], [2.41],... [Pg.58]

Unstabilized chrome yellow pigments have poor lightfastness, and darken due to redox reactions. Recent developments have led to improvements in the fastness properties of chrome yellow pigments, especially toward sulfur dioxide and temperature. This has been achieved by coating the pigment particles with compounds of titanium, cerium, aluminum, antimony, and silicon [3.134] — [3.142]. [Pg.118]

Having debated the mechanism of charge transport within the polymer film, it is now useful to consider a few examples of chemical applications of polymer modified electrodes. Electrodes coated with [Ru(bipy)2Cl(PVP)]Cl or [Ru(bipy)2(py)(PVP)]Cl2 show strong catalytic effects for the reduction of cerium(IV) and the oxidation of iron(II).52... [Pg.19]

The lanthanides find some use as stabilizers for polymers. The coating of polycarbonate with a poly(vinyl alcohol) film containing CeCl3 inhibits photodegradation of the polycarbonate.151 The naphthenates of cerium, lanthanum and yttrium act as thermal stabilizers for polyorgano-siloxanes.152... [Pg.1027]
