The crucible is dried first at 40° and then at ioo° to constant weight, being subsequently calcined, cooled and again weighed the difference between the two weights gives the starch free from ash and water. To express this value as potato starch, etc. (which is what is usually added), it is divided by o-8 to express it as cereal flour, it is divided by 0 67.

Equipment suitable for accurately weighing and dispensing small quantities of ingredients should be available. Care is necessary in handling premixes. Before being added into the mix these should be admixed with ground cereal to make up at least 5% of the total mix. This is to ensure that the premix disperses uniformly through the mix. 

Another area that attracts the consumer s attention is weight control, it is estimated that 34 million people in the U.S. weigh 20% in excess of what is ideal (13). It is not surprising, therefore, to see a rising tide of diet beverages, sugar-free snacks, desserts, cereals, low calorie frozen foods, low-fat processed meats, and a host of calorie-controlled prepared meals. This trend is expected to continue — a challenge and an opportunity for the food industry.

Following the same study design, 11 healthy infants (5 boys and 6 girls, 18-27 weeks old and weighing 5.5-8 kg) received an infant cereal (based on wheat flour and soy flour) fortified with 2 mg Fe from either radiolabelled sodium iron EDTA or iron(ll) sulfate, the latter plus added ascorbic acid (to optimize conditions... 

It is necessary only to remind the reader of the great range in size and shape of seeds, from the spore-like seeds of the Orchids, through the familiar seeds of crop plants (peas, beans, cereals, lettuce, tomato) to the large coconut and huge Lodoicea which may weigh up to 15 kg ...

Thousand (1000-) kernel weight A measurement test applied to cereal grains. A certain amount of randomly selected kernels is counted manually or by machine and weighed, and the value reported as 1000-kemel weight. This value is related to grain size, grain density, soundness, and miUing potential.
