Centrifugal pumps boiler feed

Pumps.—Boiler-feed pumps are of the plunger (direct-steam or power-driven) or rotary (centrifugal) type the latter being driven by a steam turbine or electric motor. Steam-driven pumps are used when there is need of their exhaust for feed-water heating. Centrifugal pumps are generally more compact, and easier to maintain than plunger pumps. [Pg.27]

Many centrifugal pumps are built for specific service and are classified by their intended service, such as general-purpose pump, boiler-feed water pump, sluny pump, sump pump, hot oil pump, etc. [Pg.17]

The centrifugal pump is the type most widely used in the chemical industiy for transferring liquids of aU types—raw materials, materials in manufacture, and finished produc ts—as well as for general services of water supply, boiler feed, condenser circulation, condensate return, etc. These pumps are available through avast range of sizes, in capacities from 0.5 mVh to 2 X 10 mVh (2 gal/min to 10 gaJ/min), and for discharge heads (pressures) from a few meters to approximately 48 MPa (7000 Ibf/iu"). The size and type best suited to a particular apphcation can be determined only by an engineering study of the problem. [Pg.902]

Steam condensate at 1 atm and 95°C (Pv = 526 mmHg) is returned to a boiler from the condenser by a centrifugal boiler feed pump. The flow rate is 100 gpm through a 2.5 in. sch 40 pipe. If the equivalent length of the pipe between the condenser and the pump is 50 ft, and the pump has an NPSH of 6 ft, what is the maximum height above the condenser that the pump can be located ... [Pg.258]

Centrifugal boiler-feed pumps usually have a maximum allowable temperature rise of 15°F. The minimum allowable flow through the pump to prevent the water temperature from rising more than 15°F is 30 gal/min for each 100 bhp input at shutoff. [Pg.228]

Steam turbines. In modern plants the centrifugal synthesis gas compressors, including recycle, are almost exclusively driven by a steam turbines. These are generally extraction turbines with a condensing section. Steam is extracted at suitable pressure levels (e.g. 45-55 bar) to provide, for example, the process steam in steam reforming plants, and for other drivers, e.g., air compressor, ammonia compressor, boiler feed water pumps, and blowers. [Pg.144]

For larger capacity and power requirements than the above, experience derived from centrifugal pump design for the feed to steam boilers, which have similar pressure differentials and high power requirements, is applicable. [Pg.294]

Boiler feed pumps Built to control the amount of water that enters a boiler. They are centrifugal pumps and most are multistage. [Pg.85]
