Cedrela odorata

Extraction of the leaves of Cedrela odorata with methanol yielded four mexicanolides, cedrodorin (276), 6-acetoxycedrodorin (277), 6-deoxy-9a-hydroxycedrodorin (278), and 9a-hydroxycedrodorin (279). Rejection of C. odorata leaves by the weevil Exopthalmus jekelianus was found to be correlated with the presence of cedrodorin (276), 6-acetoxycedrodorin (277) and 6-deoxy-9a-hydroxycedrodorin (278) but not 9ct-hydroxycedrodorin (2 79).121 The concentration of these four mexicanolides varied with genotype, but the active compounds were always more abundant than the inactive ones. [Pg.484]

Other important forest types are found somewhat more to the east of the piedmont region, on frequently inundated floodplains (Finol, 1976) usually they are medium to tall (up to 40 m), semideciduous to subevergreen forests, often with three well-defined tree layers, and are rich in palms but with a relatively open understorey. The dominant tree species are Swietenia macrophylla King, Cedrela odorata L. and Pachira quinata, accompanied by large stands of the pahn Attalea butyracea (L. f.) Wess. Boer. [Pg.111]

One of the most useful woods in Jamaica is that obtained from Cedrela odorata, an immense forest tree. It is a native of the Caribbee Islands and the Barbadoes. Its timber has a pleasant odour of cedar, hence it is frequently spoken of as. Jamaica or Honduras cedar, and from the wood most of the ordinary cigar boxes are made. The wood yields from 5 to 1 per cent, of oil of a light blue colour, and having the following characters —... [Pg.494]
