Swietenia macrophylla

Other important forest types are found somewhat more to the east of the piedmont region, on frequently inundated floodplains (Finol, 1976) usually they are medium to tall (up to 40 m), semideciduous to subevergreen forests, often with three well-defined tree layers, and are rich in palms but with a relatively open understorey. The dominant tree species are Swietenia macrophylla King, Cedrela odorata L. and Pachira quinata, accompanied by large stands of the pahn Attalea butyracea (L. f.) Wess. Boer.

Oxides such as xylocarpin (48) are found in Xylocarpus granatum 158), Swietenia humilis 159) and Swietenia macrophylla 200), it is probable that they open to give SOa-hydroxy-A compounds (Scheme 10).
