CCl4-induced liver injury

Cytokines have also been shown to play protective roles in several liver injury models, including viral hepatitis, carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver injury, concanavalin A-induced liver injury, 1/R injury, partial hepatectomy, and AILI, where they exert their hepatoprotective effects by downregulating inflammatirm and promoting liver regeneration (Diehl 2000 Gao 2005 James et al. 2005b Lacour et al. 2005 Liu and Kaplowitz 2006). [Pg.212]

Puerariae Flos (the flowers of Pueraria lobata) is a crude drug used for counteraction to alcohol intoxication in traditional Japanese and Chinese therapeutic systems [20]. We have found that total OGs were effective for alcohol intoxication [21]. It was also effective for an experimental in vivo model of hepatic injury [22]. That is, the total OG decreased the alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level in high fatty food-induced and CCl4-induced experimental liver injury. After repeating some chromatographic technique, we obtained three OGs together with several isoflavones [20]. [Pg.91]

Ohta et al.228 studied whether L-tryptophan would alleviate CCl4-induced chronic liver injury and related dysfunction in rats. Rats received a daily intraperitoneal injection of L-tryptophan (50 mg/kg) for 2 weeks after 6 weeks of subcutaneous injections of CC14 (1 mg/kg) twice weekly. In the rats treated with CC14 alone, the concentration of serum albumin and liver protein and the activity of liver protein synthesis in vitro decreased. The rats that also received L-tryptophan revealed that L-tryptophan alleviated these changes. They speculated that the latter finding alleviated the liver injury changes. [Pg.123]
