Causes of Global Warming

The National Climate Data Center report from the NOAA found that the levels of GHGs in the atmosphere increased in 2010 from the previous year (Global Warming Frequently Asked Questions 2012). In fact, the rate that the GHG increased from 2009 to 2010 was the largest yearly [Pg.20]

In the industrial sector, steel and concrete industries have the highest C02eq emissions. Petrochemical industry, including plastics, has the 10th largest contribution. Table 2.1 lists the contributions to C02eq emissions from industry (EPA Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks 2013). [Pg.21]

The importance of reducing CO2 emissions is a significant feature of sustainable products for industry. This will be discussed in detail in [Pg.22]

Other than longer-term supply issues the main driver for moving away from fossil resources is pollution. Since pre-industrial times the level of atmospheric CO2 has risen from 280 ppm to 360 ppm, and whilst some observers believe this may be a natural cycle in the Earth s history, most believe it is a direct consequence of burning fossil fuels. This additional CO2 is now thought to be the main cause of global warming via the greenhouse effect (see Box 6.1). [Pg.167]

The cause of global warming from man-made atmospheric gases also stems from the same factor of atmospheric persistence, as well as their ability to absorb infrared light radiating from Earth to space. Thermal radiation from a radiant body has a distribution of wavelengths, with the maximum value given by Wien s law ... [Pg.222]

Any current warming of the earth is small and is probably quite normal climate variability, (2) There is no noticeable increase in the frequency of extreme weather events, (3) Talk of rising sea levels is alarmist and not supported by data, (4) Despite claims to the contrary, research shows that temperatures and carbon dioxide levels have been higher than today, (5) The current level of carbon dioxide is no cause for alarm,. . . and (7) An increase in the level of carbon dioxide is not the cause of global warming. [Pg.91]

The increase of CO2 in the atmosphere has been considered to be one of the causes of global warming. The amount of CO2 exhausted from the thermal power stations of electric power companies has reached approximately one fourth of the total amount of CO2 exhausted in Japan. Therefore, as one of the measures to cope with this problem, technologies to fix CO2 using the photosynthetic ability of the microalga have been studied [2], The establishment of the utilization technology of CO2 which is fixed by microalga is also... [Pg.649]

Global measures for reducing the levels of CO2 gas, which has been identified as a cause of global warming, have begun to be implemented as discussed in the Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP). Since resin parts are manufactured from... [Pg.179]
