Catechol 1,2-dioxygenase

Heavy-metal cations and oxyanions are generally toxic to bacteria although resistance may be induced by various mechanisms after exposure. Attention is drawn to an unusual example in which AF+ may be significant, since the catechol 1,2-dioxygenase and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (protocat-echuate) 3,4-dioxygenase that are involved in the metabolism of benzoate by strains of Rhizobium trifolii are highly sensitive to inhibition by AP (Chen et al. 1985). [Pg.256]

The metabolism of fluorophenols by phenol hydroxylase from Trichosporium cutaneum, catechol 1,2-dioxygenase from Pseudomonas arvilla strain C-1, and by the fungus Exophilia jeanselmei has been examined, and detailed NMR data were given for the ring fission flnoromnconates (Boersma et al. 1998). [Pg.288]

Previous studies suggested that enzymes responsible for the aromatic amine removal become more active when the color removal rates are high, which resulted in more aromatic amine production within the SBR. Beside this, adverse effect of anaerobic conditions on aerobic enzymes was also reported, and results indicated that their activities increased in aerobic stage and decreased in anaerobic stages due to the absence of dissolved oxygen [20, 69]. Viliesid and Lilly [70] found that the activity of catechol 1,2-dioxygenase is dependent on the dissolved oxygen... [Pg.68]

This enzyme [EC 1.13.11.1] catalyzes the reaction of catechol with dioxygen to produce d5, cK-muconate. Iron ions are used as a cofactor. Among its physiological roles, catechol 1,2-dioxygenase participates in the metabolism... [Pg.120]

Figure 5.4 Production of cis, cw-muconic acid from benzoic acid by the consecutive action of benzoate-1,2-dioxygenase, dihydroxy-dihydrocyclohexa-2,4-diene-l-carboxylic acid dehydrogenase and catechol-1,2-dioxygenase.
Introduction of ry/XYZ and xylL was via a recombinant Tn5 xy/XYZLS. The resultant strain FR1 (Pseudomonas sp. B13 Tn5 xy/XYZLS]) remained unable to use 4-methyl phenol and continued to utilize 3-chlorobenzoate via fission of the 3-chlorocatechol oxidation product as it did before the pathway was altered. However, unlike B13, FR1 was able to grow with 4-chlorobenzoate as the sole carbon source. The newly introduced toluate dioxygenase accepted 4-chlorobenzoate as a substrate, and the carboxylate dehydrogenase re-aromatized the resulting dihydrodiol to 4-chlorocatechol. 4-Chlorocatechol proved to be an acceptable substrate for the native catechol 1,2-dioxygenase. Its immediate product, 3-chloromuconate, was completely metabolized. [Pg.353]

The X-ray absorption spectra of a series of 28 model Fem complexes and those of ovatransferrin, protocatechuate 3,4-dioxygenase and catechol 1,2-dioxygenase have been analyzed, and appear to give information on the coordination number of the protein-bound iron. Thus the transferrin complexes appear to be six- or seven-coordinate, while the dioxygenase complexes could be five-or six-coordinate.816... [Pg.634]
