Catalyst regeneration commercial regenerators

Another recent new application of a microporous materials in oil refining is the use of zeolite beta as a solid acid system for paraffin alkylation [3]. This zeolite based catalyst, which is operated in a slurry phase reactor, also contains small amounts of Pt or Pd to facilitate catalyst regeneration. Although promising, this novel solid acid catalyst system, has not as yet been applied commercially. 

In commercial aging simulations, KINPTR s deactivation model is used to predict cycle lengths (time between catalyst regenerations) and reactor inlet temperature requirements with time on stream to maintain target reformate... 

Commercial Development of Fixed-Bed Process. From the above process considerations it became obvious that the capacity of a commercial unit, and its economic value, were closely related to its ability to burn coke. Indeed, most of the design problems associated with catalytic cracking have been centered around the question of catalyst regeneration. To obtain the most favorable economic return from a 10,000-barrel-per-day unit, it was designed to burn approximately 6000 pounds per hour of coke. This coke yield represents approximately 5% by weight of the charge. 

The TPD apparatus consisted of a stainless steel flow system connected to a thermal conductivity cell. Catalyst samples of 0.1 g were placed in one arm of an L-shaped, 6 mm Vycor tube. A dual adsorption bed containing alumina and Oxy-Trap (Alltech) was placed in the other arm to prevent contamination by water and respectively. Frequent regeneration in and He was required. This in-situ adsorption bed was found necessary despite purification traps on all gas lines coming into the flow system. Pulses of 0.25 cc of a 10% mixture of CO in He were injected into the He carrier gas and passed over the pretreated catalyst at room temperature. All runs were programmed heated at a rate of 20 K min . The Pt catalysts, either commercial or laboratory produced, were prepared by the impregnation of chloroplatinic acid on Cyanamid s Aero 1000 alumina, except for two catalysts which were prepared by platinum diamino dinitrite impregnation. 

Table XII shows that CBI varies directly with Pe, being low for mixed flow (low Pe) and high for plug flow (high Pe). Commercial FFB regenerators operate between the extremes of complete mixing and plug flow, while the conventional turbulent bed operates essentially with complete mixing. This explains the high efficiency of catalyst regeneration in FFB.
