Carlsberg brewery

The definition of pH (eqn (3.1)) was coined as early as 1909 by Sorensen of the Carlsberg breweries in Copenhagen. Sometime later in the 1920s, Bronsted and Lowry established the fundamental definitions of acidity and... [Pg.38]

Despite having no female members, ladies were invited to participate in the summer excursions, arranged from the 1890s. All excursions focused on industrial plants and visits included one to a super-phosphate and sulfuric acid factory in 1888 and another to the Carlsberg Brewery and Laboratory in the winter of 1889-1890. The first woman was admitted in the society in 1898, one year after the first two females graduated from the Polytechnic College. The first woman on the executive committee - Agnes Petersen, married Delbanco -was elected in 1914, and the same year she became the first woman to deliver a paper in the society. There were never many women in the society and they played only minor roles as speakers or members of the executive committee -quite similar to the subordinate roles the female scientists often played in the laboratory. [Pg.83]

As just pointed out, the acidity or basicity of a solution can be described in terms of its concentration. In 1909, Soren Sorensen (1868-1939), a biochemist working at the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen, proposed an alternative method of specifying the acidity of a solution. He defined a term called pH (for power of the hydrogen ion ) ... [Pg.404]

Malt waste, mostly semisolids of spent barley and millet refuse, was obtained from Carlsberg Company, a Hong Kong beer brewery. Soy waste, chiefly semisolid cellular residues of soy beans, was collected from Vitasoy International Holdings Ltd, a Hong Kong soy milk company. [Pg.364]

Six major breweries have successfully bottled beer in plastic containers Miller, Heineken, Bass, Feldschlossen. Carlton United, and Carlsberg. The bottle for Miller Lite was developed by Continental PET Technologies, using five layers, with a PA (nylon MXD6) barrier layer less than 5 wt% of the container. In Australia, Carlton United introduced a monolayer bottle coated with PPG Industries Bairocade coating. [Pg.223]

The 1834-batch went into the traditional chemical industries. For the 1860-batch we see two new industries town gas (first plant opened in 1853) and cement (first long-surviving plant opened in 1888, but there was earlier production). For the 1885-batch there were the following new industries fertilizers (modernization and expansion), paper, breweries (Carlsberg Laboratory, 1875) and distilleries. For the 1910-batch there was also porcelain and edible oil (margarine). [Pg.40]
