Carbon disulfide neuropathy caused

Substances that can be metabolized to y-diketones, such as -hexane, which is metabolized to 2,5-hexanedione, cause the same disorders. Examples of the many other substances known to cause axonopathies are colchicine, disulhram, hydralazine, misonidazole, and insecticidal pyrethroids. Peripheral neuropathy is the most common kind of axonopathic disorder. However, other symptoms may be observed. Numerous cases of manic psychoses were produced in workers exposed to carbon disulfide, CS2, in the viscose rayon and vulcan rubber industries. 

Toxicity and health effects Exposure to high concentrations of carbon disulfide causes deleterious effects that include headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, chest pains, blurred vision, delirium, neurophysiological changes, reduced nerve condnetion velocity, peripheral neuropathy, polyneuropathy, convulsions, and problems with brain, liver, heart. After pregnant rats breathed carbon disnlfide in the air, some of the newborn rats died or had birth defects. High concentrations of carbon disnlfide have caused skin bnrns when the chemical accidentally tonched people s skin. - ... 

C. Chronic lower-level exposure can cause parkinsonism and other poorly reversible CNS impairments, optic neuritis, peripheral neuropathy, and atherosclerosis. Based on animal data, carbon disulfide exposure is likely to be associated with adverse reproductive outcomes. 

Established causes of peripheral neuropathy include lead, arsenic, mercury, carbon disulfide (mentioned earlier in connection with ASHD), n-hexane, and certain organophosphates. 

Long-term exposure to carbon disulfide and n-hexane may result in peripheral neuropathy. It should be noted that n-heptane and n-octane have not been shown to cause the type of peripheral neuropathy (numbness, weakness, and pain in extremities) associated with n-hexane. Otherwise than the other alkanes, n-hexane is metabolized to a reactive, toxic compound (2,5-hexanedione). ...
