Fortimately, several hydrocarbon liquids which are of interest in the present discussion have been among those studied. Turnbull and Cormia [66] report a value of 9.6 dynes per cm. for the solid-liquid interfacial tension of n-octadecane and 7.2 dynes per cm. for n-hepta-decane. They suggest that these two values are characteristic of the higher n-alkanes with even and odd numbers of carbon atoms, respectively. That is, for each series, the solid-liquid tension is independent of the number of carbon atoms. Data for other hydrocarbons are given by Thomas and Stavely [64]. They report values of 20.4 dynes per cm. for benzene, 24.0 for biphenyl, and 30.1 for naphthalene. [Pg.173]

Stable carbon isotopes data—As shown in Table 2 and Fig. 3, the extracted sediment residue exhibits value (—24.24%o) which is lower than the SMB sediment (—22.41%o) and Southern Ocean site in the South Pacific sector in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current region (Wang and Druffel, 2001) but falls within the range of values, —23.90 to —26.50%o, obtained from the unextracted sediments earlier from the same region (Venkatesan, 1988) and from the Ross Ice Shelf (Sackett, 1986). Gilson et al. [12] studied technique to simultaneously reduce both the hydrogen sulfide and siloxanes concentration to less than 1 ppm. Five different commercial activated carbons (AC) previously studied [77] and effective in H2S removal have been tested at L2 at concentration of 100-200 ppm. Samples differ in specific surface area. Their performances are compared to understand which mechanism controls siloxane removal and which carbon characteristic plays a role in the adsorption process.
