A blueprint for the majority of the following IPCR applications was introduced in 1993 by Zhou et al. [24] with the appositely termed Universal-IPCR protocol. In this technique, the antigen to be detected is coupled subsequently with an antigen-specific primary antibody, a species-specific biotinylated detection antibody, STV, and a biotinylated DNA in four incubation steps, each separated by a washing step for removal of unbound reagents (see Figs. 2B and 3B). 

The preceding scheme was blueprinted by I.G. Farbenindustrie for large-scale operations, in which the ammonium chloride in the p-nitroaniline mother liquor was liberated by the addition of lime, and recovered. The German product was frequently dark and contained acetone insolubles. This handicap could in all probability be remedied by the insertion of a set of small-pressure filters in the line between the holding tubes and the expansion vessel. Experience has shown that such a technique leads to a canary-yellow, finely divided product. 

Proactive and reactive recovery techniques such as the ones here described, but also many others, can be implemented in critical systems. However, it would be highly interesting to assess their actual convenience for a given system before to carry out them physically. Thereby, we think that the models developed in previous section can be useful for this purpose and with this thought in mind, we show in this section how a software design can offer interfaces through which eventually it will be combined, at UML level, with the FT target techniques.
