Additional methods for tar removal are fixed bed adsorbers made of lignite coke - providing good adsorption at low cost - activated carbon and sand bed filters. Activated carbon filters are usually installed upstream a fabric filter and downstream the RPS and are able to remove at least 70% tar. Sand bed filters are also suitable for removing tar from biomass gasification products, achievable reduction levels ranging from 50 to 97% [19], Pathak et al. [22] reported them achieving a 90% reduction of particulates.
