Kamchay lies at the edge of the Bokor National Park, upstream from a modest local tourist spot, Teuk Chuu Falls. An environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project was carried out in the 1990s by three Canadian companies, but the Canadian International Development Agency, faced with criticism by environmental NGOs, withdrew its funding for a feasibility study. In 2002 a Japanese organization completed a feasibility study, and in 2006, Sinohydro commissioned another EIA, but neither has been made public. At the international level, the IPCS iNCHEM Programme was developed in 1997 as a cooperative imdertaking between the International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) and the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). This very important and valuable chemical safety information collection from international agencies has been publicly available through a paid subscription.
