Calcium derivatives

Casein exists in milk in the form of a calcium derivative pH 4.6 is the isoelectric point of free casein, which is soluble to the extent of only 0.11 g. per liter.1... 

The synthesis of substituted calcium amides is generally achieved either via salt elimination between a halide (often Cal2) and an alkali metal amide or via transamination using bis(trimethylsilylamido)calcium derivatives, most commonly [Ca N(Si-Me3)2 2(thf)2]. The latter was also conveniently prepared from Ca(OSO2CF3)2 and 2Na- N(SiMe3)2 in thf. ... 

Belcher et al. reported the synthesis of the strontium derivatives of tpm, ppm, and hpm by addition of the /3-diketone to an aqueous solution of the metal chloride (see later discussion for other method using MC12 salts). After adjustment of the solution pH to 7 with ammonia, the metal bis(/3-diketonate) compounds precipitate as white solids.151 The same authors have also reported the synthesis of the calcium derivatives of these three ligands by addition of the ligand to calcium hydroxide suspended in methanol. The compounds are precipitated by addition of water. The barium derivatives, however, were prepared directly by addition of the /3-diketone to an aqueous solution of barium hydroxide. The MU(L)2 2HzO (M = Ca, Sr, or Ba L = tpm, ppm, or hpm) compounds are all similar in composition. Metal hydroxide methods have also been used for the preparation of M(fod)2,152 M(hfac)2(H20) ,153 (enH2)] 5[Ba(hfac)5] ... 

When the divalent cation becomes too large for the spinel structure to be adopted (e.g. Ca +, Ba +, andPb +), atridymite (Si02) stmcture is obtained that has the divalent cation in the interstices see Silicon Inorganic Chemistry). These are synthesized by reaction of the oxides at temperatures over 800 °C. The barium and calcium derivatives are used in ceramics and refractories. In particular, BaAl204 is used... 

Numerous studies suggest that the relative proportion of calcium derived from the watershed compared to the calcium derived from atmospheric inputs can be inferred by using strontium isotope data. The strontium isotope ratios for the bedrock, atmospheric input, and output are combined in a linear mixing model to infer the ultimate sources of calcium (bedrock/soil complex versus atmosphere). The explicit assumption in this technique is that calcium and strontium behave similarly during all biogeochemical processes. The assumption has been challenged by Bullen et al. (2002).

It was observed, however, that when the compound was excreted into the urine it carried with it an equivalent of calcium derived from its combination with serum calcium. The net result consequently was an increase in the total urine calcium excretion with no decrease in the ionic calcium fraction.

The calcium derivative is completely biodegradable and is used extensively as an emulsifier in combination with ethoxy-lated nonionics in self-dispersing liquids. 

Membrane recruitment - the rapid elevation in levels of DAG and intracellular calcium derived from the hydrolysis of phosphoinositide lipids stimulates the translocation of cPKC to the inner face of the plasma membrane.
