The only common redox titration applied in the clinical laboratory is for the analysis of calcium in biological fluids. Calcium oxalate is precipitated and filtered, the precipitate is dissolved in acid, and the oxalate, which is equivalent to the calcium present, is titrated with standard potassium permanganate solution. This method is largely replaced now by more convenient techniques such as complex-ometric titration with EDTA (Chapter 9) or measurement by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Chapter 17). [Pg.433]

Crystal Structure Studies of Calcium Complexes and Implications for Biological Systems... [Pg.292]

Since, as mentioned above, calcium plays veiy important role in biological systems, our studies are devoted to calcium complexes with polyphenol glycosides. So this review will be devoted mostly to describe the research done on calcium-carbohy-... [Pg.274]

An important aspect for materials with applications in the biomedical field is the use of nontoxic catalysts. Biologically nontoxic magnesium and calcium complexes have been successfully employed for the ROP of TMC however, the toxicity of the salen ligands has not been assessed, and polymerization... [Pg.265]

The factors considered above demonstrate that in many respects the rare earth ions resemble the alkaline earth ions in their complex-forming tendencies more closely than they do the d-transition elements. Indeed one of the more recent uses of the rare earth ions is as a substitute for calcium in biological systems. [Pg.215]
