10-Cadinol

Aerial parts of N. sintenisii yielded 0.3% of a clear yellowish oil. Forty constituents (96.5% of the total oil) were identified. The main components were 4aP,7a,7aP-nepetalactone (23.4%), elemol (16.1%), E- -farnesene (9.5%), 1,8-cineole (8.2%), cw-sabinene hydrate (6.5%), P-bisabolene (4.2%), germacrene-D (3.5%), P-sesquiphellandrene (2.8%), P-bourbonene (1.5%) and a-epi-cadinol (1.3%). According to available data, Nepeta species can be divided into two groups of nepetalactone-containing and nepetalactone-free species. The results of this study indicate that the compositions of volatile oil of N. sintenisii are similar to the other Nepeta genus and this plant could be classified in the group which 4aP,7a,7aP-nepetalactone is the major component of their oils. 

The main components of Salvia mirzayanii were Linalool, Linalyl acetate, a-Tei pinyl acetate, 5-Cadinene, Spathulenol, Cubenol and a-Cadinol. The extraction yield, based on hydrodistillatin was 2.2% (v/w), and based on the SFE varied in the range of 0.65-10.59% (v/w) under different conditions. 

They delected a-plnene, -pineue, mviceuc, a sevquileqjeue which is eillier cadinene, or is easily couveiied into cadinene hydrochloride, aud a sesquitcrpeue alcohol, cadinol, of the formula C,.H. 50, Cadinol forms a hydrochloride melting at ll" to llii".

In acetic acid the intermediate zwitterion is trapped by acetate affording cyclopentenones with an acylated hydroxymethylene group on C-4. Use of this sequence has been made of in the synthesis of the sesquiterpenes cyclocolorenone 347) (3.31) and a-cadinol (3.32) 348).

Another phytochemical that stimulated males and females differentially was T-cadinol, extracted from Solidago altissima L. It stimulated male and female antennae, but in comparison with germacrene-D, the responses were neither as sex specific nor as strong (Nishino et al., 1977c).

The scent scales on the wings of a male lycaenid, Lycaeides argyroqnomon, secrete a mixture of n-nonanal, hexadecyl acetate, and a sesquiterpene alcohol, tentatively identified as torreyol (5-cadinol) (XXVIII) (113) the absolute configuration of the sesquiterpene has not been determined. These male-derived pheromones appear to play an important role in the courtship behavior of this species. 

The sensory properties of black pepper oil obtained by steam distillation of ground peppercorns were analysed with the aid of column chromatography, high-resolution GC and GC-MS. A total of 46 compounds were identified, including (EJ-p-ocimene, 8-guaiene, (Z)(E)-farnesol, 8-cadinol and guaiol, which are reported for the first time as volatile compounds of the essential oil. Sabinene and terpinen-4-ol appeared to be the most important contributors among the volatile compounds to the characteristic odour of black pepper oil (Pino et al., 1990).
