CADD

Further information about software for computer aided drug design (CADD) is available at the website http //www.netsci.org/Resources/Sojiware/Modeling/CADD/. 

CADD, a part of CAD, is the computer-assisted generation of working drawings and other documents. The CADD user generates graphics by interactive communication with the computer. The graphics are displayed on a video terminal and can be converted into hard copy by a printer or plotter.

More recently, a group in England led by a structural biologist compiled a list of marketed medicines that came from SBDD [133]. These are labeled SBDD in Table 1.2. It can be seen that there is only a little overlap between the two compilations (CADD and SBDD). It can also be seen that the number of pharmaceuticals from SBDD is very impressive. Computer-based technologies are clearly making a difference in helping bring new medicines to patients.

For example, the rate accelerations in acetonitrile relative to FI 13 for additions to styrene by CF3- and CF3CF2CF2- are a factor of 3.2 and 2.5, respectively, but for additions of these two radicals to pentafluorostyrene the solvent effects are only 1.3 and 2.1. For comparison, Salikhov and Fischer have found that the rate of addition of the nucleophilic fert-butyl radical to (electron-deficient) acrylonitrile (IP=10.9 eV) is also somewhat accelerated in more polar solvents, e.g.,fcadd(CH3CN)//cadd(c-C6H12) = 2.8[129],...
