1,4-Butanediamine putrescine

Diamine A compound with two amine groups, such as 1,4-butanediamine (putrescine). [Pg.507]

Another source of post-mortem GHB production is putrescine (1,4-butanediamine), a biogenic polyamine initially detected in decaying animal tissues, but now known to be present in all cells, both eukaryotic and prokaryotic, where it is important for cell... [Pg.205]

Ubiquitous biological chemical formed by decarboxylation in tissue of ornithine or arginine. Used in biochemical and biological research. Solid mp = 27.5° bp = 158.5° d = 0.8770 soluble in H2O (40 g/l), organic solvents. [Pg.530]

Diamines are even worse. Some indication of how bad-smelling they often are can be gained from their names. 1,4-Butanediamine is called putrescine, and 1,5-pentanediamine is called cadaverine. [Pg.246]

One other characteristic of amines is their odor. Low-molecular-weight amines such as trimethylamine have a distinctive fishlike aroma, while diamines such as cadaverine (1,5-pentanediamine) and putrescine (1,4-butanediamine) have the appalling odors you might expect from their common names. Both these diamines arise from the decomposition of proteins. [Pg.948]

Substances with two amine functions are diamines, two examples of which are 1,4-butanediamine and 1,5-pentanediamine. Their contribution to the smell of dead fish and rotting flesh leads to their descriptive common names, putrescine and cadaverine, respectively. [Pg.934]
