Burning character

No single laboratory test can determine the complete burning character of a particular textile.7 There are two types of tests, scientific or research test methods and the standard test methods. The research test methods help in understanding the burning behavior and are used to develop new products or fire-retardant finishes.

Flame retardants are used to treat a product so that its resistance to burning is improved or modified. PVC is inherently non-burning character because of high chloride content. It is a self extinguishing polymer. Some compound formulations are designed so as to add non-flammable properties. This is generally accomplished by addition of non flammable plasticizers such as phosphate esters or chlorinated hydrocarbons. Antimony oxide is widely used in PVC where low temperature properties of phosphates are aimed, levels of 1-3 phr antimony oxide are generally satisfactory. Sometimes 6 phr quantities are used. For transparent applications barium metaborate may be used. 

Whole grains means grains of cereals from which no part has been intentionally removed. The unique taste characteristics and smokey flavor of Scotch is developed from peat used in the whisky production process. The character and amount of peat used in malting the barley have a critical affect on the flavor intensity of the final product. The aroma of the burning peat is absorbed by the barley malt and is carried through the distillation process. 

Heartburn is the hallmark symptom of GERD and is generally described as a substernal sensation of warmth or burning rising up from the abdomen that may radiate to the neck. It may be waxing and waning in character.

The regulations retain the Bevill exclusion for residues from certain BIFs as long as the burning or processing of the hazardous waste does not significantly affect the character of the residue. These BIFs include21... 

To determine whether the character of a residue has been significantly affected by the burning or processing of hazardous waste, and thus whether the Bevill exemption can be claimed, one of two criteria must be met. As long as the residue meets either criterion, it will qualify for the Bevill exclusion. 

Both types of surface oxides are found on technical products. Rubber grade carbon blacks are produced in different processes. Channel blacks are made by cooling a flame on iron plates, the so-called channels. The resulting carbon blacks are acidic in character because an excess of air is present (25). In the production of furnace blacks, the fuel, mostly oil or natural gas, is burned with a limited supply of air. Thermal blacks are obtained by thermal cracking of the gas, which sometimes is diluted with hydrogen. In consequence, both types show weakly basic reaction in aqueous suspension. 

In general, pyrolants composed of a polymeric material and AN particles are smokeless in character, their burning rates are very low, and their pressure exponents of burning rate are high. However, black smoke is formed as i decreased and carbonaceous layers are formed on the burning surface. These carbonaceous layers are formed from the undecomposed polymeric materials used as the matrix of the pyrolant. When crystalline AN particles are mixed with GAP, GAP-AN pyrolants are formed. Since GAP burns by itself, the GAP used as a matrix for AN particles decomposes completely and bums with the oxidizer gases generated by the AN particles.
