To pursue the problem it is convenient to introduce some terminology. Instead of a phrase "a favorable arrangement of a number of consecutive base units" we shall use the name compact bundle it is relatively more rigid. Other arrangements of monomeric units will be called extended bundles. Thus we have two kinds of units constituting a polymer chain, to be denoted by symbols c and e. We introduce the symbol Nce for the number of pairs of nearest neighbor bundles such that one of them is compact and the other extended. Ncc and Nee are defined analogously. [Pg.388]

The terminology we have adopted shows that both kinds of bundles are on equal footing. As Rice and his colleagues (26) did in a somewhat similar situation, we assume that the number of segments rj, in a compact bundle (akin to their "helical section") is the same as in an extended bundle. Therefore... [Pg.389]

As noted in Chapter 2, the non-productive aspects of construction work-those that are not time and money-can often struggle to impact on site operations. Fundamental problems of segregation from practice through the development of safety as a separate entity are further compounded by its inclusion in these non-productive bundles. Such terminology and management associations certainly influence how safety works on sites, and unfortunately such approaches are inherently unable to support the statement that ... [Pg.111]

For any topological group F one can construct a contractible space ET on which the group F acts freely. This space ET is called the total space of the universal bundle of F. The terminology comes from the fact that one has a principal T-bundle with the base space FiF/F and the total space ET, which one calls the universal bundle of F. [Pg.116]

The network can be considered as a new member in the family of nano-structured (terminology of authors) carbons. Its channel width is 1.5-2.0 nm, comparable to the width of single-wall carbon nanotubes, but instead of forming an assembly of freestanding tubes or bundle of tubes, the channels are embedded in a solid and are interconnected (the authors are essentially describing a microporous carbon). The network is of multiple interest (i) Its... [Pg.124]
