Building conditioning cooling system

In a majority of buildings and nearly all residences, automobiles, and other forms of transportation, comfort cooling systems operate on command—that is, the air conditioner is on or off in obedience to the thermostat. Thus, the air conditioner starts and stops a number of limes during a 24-hour period. Studies have shown dial the performance of cooling equipment operates at highest efficiency when used continuously. It has been estimated by authorities that about 25% of tile total power consumption of an air-conditioning unit can be attributed to discontinuous operation. [Pg.1432]

Does the facility location use automatic temperature controllers YesE NoD If yes, describe Conditioned Building 6580 house air is supplied to the basement HCF ventilatiop system for introduction to Zone 2. Automatic temperature controllers determine the temperature of air exiting the building heating and cooling system. Separate temperature controMers... [Pg.391]

Passive containment cooling system storage tank and associated valves (these are within the shield building, but outside the containment vessel, with their own dedicated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, completely separate from the containment air filtration system). [Pg.45]

This subsection should provide relevant information on the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and cooling systems in a format as described in paras 3.65-3.70. It should include the ventilation systems for the control room area, the spent fuel pool area, the auxiliary and radioactive waste area and the turbine building (in boiling water reactors) and the ventilation systems for engineered safety features. [Pg.36]

A. 1618. A detailed analysis of the core and system performance shall be given. The methods used to characterize the reactor core and system performance under accident conditions shall be discussed and the important results of the analysis presented. The discussion should include, where appropriate, an evaluation of the parameters that may affect the performance of barriers restricting the transport of radioactive material from the fuel to die environment (e.g. fuel cladding, primary cooling system and building/systems providing confinement). [Pg.62]

HVAC The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that circulates and delivers filtered, humidified or dehumidified, and cooled or warmed air to the interior of a building. [Pg.1449]

To save energy, many HVAC systems employ a mechanism for regulating the flow of outdoor air called an economizer cycle. An economizer cycle takes advantage of milder outdoor conditions to increase the outside air intake and in the process reduces the cooling load on the system. Controlling the rate of flow of outdoor air appears simple, in theory, but often works poorly m practice. The small pressure drop required to control the flow rate of outdoor air is rarely controlled and monitored. Quite often, the damper system used to regulate the airflow is nonfunctional, disconnected from the damper actuators, or casually adjusted by building operators (Institute of Medicine, 2000). [Pg.54]
