Halliday (1990), a Senior Veterinary Investigation Officer, records that he had an apparently effective response to the treatment of respiratory disease in calves, with a combination of Bryonia alba and Hepar sulphuris. In subsequent years, some animals with similar respiratory signs were left untreated as controls. They also recovered, apparently as rapidly and as effectively as the homoeopathically treated calves. [Pg.157]

Cultivars of Cucumis melo L. can be attacked by Didymella bryoniae Auersew, which can cause considerable losses, because fruits attacked by this organism do not have commercial value anymore. Mosquitoes, mainly Bemisia tabaci, also attack melon cultivars. Reductions in weight, size, and sugar content are evident consequences of mosquitoes attack. Diaphania nitidalis attacks flowers and fruits, whereas Diaphania hyalinata generally attacks the leaves of the melon tree. [Pg.194]

Plants constitute more than 60% of homeopathic remedies. Different parts of plants such as roots, barks, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds are used in homeopathic medicine. Roots of annual herbs are taken out when they yield ripe fruits. In case of perennial plants roots should be lifted in the spring in the 2nd or 3rd year. Examples are Ipecacuanna and Bryonia (Cook, 1988). Fully grown and uninfected leaves are collected after sunset before the flowering season. Examples are Rhus toxicodendron and Ocimum sanctum. Flowers are collected when they begin to open. Cina serves as an example. Here the flowering tops of the plant Artemisia sp. are used. Barks are collected from young plants. Cinchona serves as an example. [Pg.3]

Arvenins III (36) and IV (37) are two further cucurbitacin glucosides from Anagallis arvensis. The former was reported last year from Ecballium elaterium (see Vol. 9, p. 193) while the latter has been isolated, together with the related glucosides (38) and (39) and iso-23,24-dihydrocucurbitacin D (40), from the roots of Bryonia alba. °... [Pg.142]
