This technique has found limitations in the determination of bromide mixed halides, iodide, iodate, nitrite, nitrate, sulphide, sulphite, thiocyanate, thiosulphate and isobutyrate in non saline waters. [Pg.9]

In the method proposed by van Staden for the determination of three halides, these are separated in a short colunm packed with a strongly basic ion-exchange resin (Dowex i-X8) that is placed in an FI manifold. A laboratory-made tubular silver/silver halide ion-selective electrode is used as a potentiometric sensor. Van Staden compared the response capabilities of the halide-selective electrodes to a wide concentration range (20-5000 pg/mL) of individual and mixed halide solutions in the presence and absence of the ion-exchange column. By careful selection of appropriate concentrations of the potassixun nitrate carrier/eluent stream to satisfy the requirements of both the ion-exchange column and the halide-selective electrode, he succeeded in separating and determining chloride, bromide and iodide in mixed halide solutions with a detection limit of 5 /xg/mL [130]. [Pg.241]

Catalyst-poisoning studies have concentrated on the potential poisons introduced with fuel, particularly on lead, which has been added intentionally to improve the combustion characteristics at the high compression ratios employed in modem internal combustion engines prior to the introduction of exhaust purification catalysts. The lead is usually introduced as motor mix which contains tetraethyllead in a mixture with organic halides, chlorides or bromides. These halides transport the lead in the form of volatile halides out of the engine and into the exhaust, and are hence termed lead scavengers. Thus the potential catalyst-poison elements associated with the additive mixture are Pb, Br, and Cl. [Pg.315]

The rate of flow of the hydrogen—three or four bubbles per second—is such that about 60 g. of bromine is vaporized in a run of 5 hours, yielding about 57 g. of mixed halides in the crude product. Increase in the rate of flow of hydrogen bromide through the reaction tube and decrease... [Pg.40]

The preparative reaction is very versatile the phenyls, (PNPh2)3 4, can be obtained from Ph2PCl3 and the methyls, (PNMe2)3 4, from Me2PCl3. Bromides and mixed halides can also be made. [Pg.342]

X), tetraethylammonium bromide, and tetraethylammonium iodide gives the mixed halide adducts XBro.23Io.46 and XBro.47lo.24- The tetracyclic compound (233) is produced by the action of triethyl phosphite on the dione... [Pg.235]

The molar volumes and liquid-gas phase compositions for the ZrCl -HfCl4 systems have also been studied (144). Nisel son (396) found that the binary systems of zirconium-hafnium chlorides, and bromides and iodides as well, have unlimited solubility in the liquid and solid states. The systems ZrCl4-ZrBr4 and ZrCl4-Zrl4 form a continuous series of solid solutions which contains a minimum. No mention is made of the possibility of mixed halide species. [Pg.90]

These complexes, which are readily synthesized by transmetalation see Transmetalation) from the appropriate Cp metal and MX4 (L = L ) or (jj -L)MX3 (L L ), represent a large family of quite always air-stable compounds. The bromides and iodides are also obtained from chlorine exchange reactions with the appropriate boron trihalide. The fluorides can be obtained by metathesis see Metathesis) of chlorides derivatives with MesSnF. With only one equivalent of tin reagent per mole of dichloride, partial fiuorination occurs affording mixed halide metallocenes. The fluorides are also prepared by chloride/fiuoride, by chloride/NMe2 followed by NMe2/fluoride exchange, and by oxidative addition see Oxidative Additioh). ... [Pg.5288]

Alkyl fluorides are the most reactive of the alkyl halides. Boron trichloride (BCI3), boron trifluoride (BF3), boron triiodide (BI3), and boron tribfomide (BBr3) all catalyze the reaction of alkyl fluorides and benzene, although they are ineffective catalysts for the analogous reaction of alkyl chlorides and alkyl bromides. reaction with mixed halides, the C—F bond reacts faster than the C—Cl, C—Br or C—I bond. This is consistent with the observed order of reactivity for alkyl halides with aluminum chloride (AICI3) ... [Pg.1082]
