CARBOBENZOXY CHLORIDE AND DERIVATIVES (Formic acid, chloro-, benzyl ester) [Pg.13]

Commercial phosgene was used it was obtained in a tank from the Ohio Chemical Company. [Pg.15]

The phosgene is absorbed rapidly for some time, then more slowly as the concentration increases. About one hour is required for this step. The amount of phosgene absorbed is checked by weighing the flask and delivery tubes occasionally. [Pg.15]

In order to prevent the escape of phosgene, a toluene trap is inserted between the apparatus and the water pump. For this purpose it is convenient to use a 2-1. flask immersed in an ice bath and containing about 11. of toluene. The flask is fitted with an inlet tube reaching almost to the bottom. [Pg.15]

It is not practical to remove the toluene completely moreover, toluene does not interfere in the preparation of the derivatives. [Pg.15]

Benzoyl chloride and derivatives acylate 2-amino-4-aryithiazoles in dioxane in yields of 80 to 90% (249, 250). The location of the acyl group on the exocyclic N has been demonstrated by the fact that the benzoyla-tion product is identical to the benzamidothiazole synthesized from benzamide and 2-bromothiazole (251). 3-Indolyl acetic acid chloride (89) acylates 2-aminothiazole in pyridine (Scheme 62) (81). [Pg.48]

The bittern (spent brine) from solar salt production contains 300 00 g/L dissolved solids relatively enriched in the less concentrated salt impurities. This may be either discarded or further worked to recover other elements of value. Brine from the Great Salt Lake, for instance, is processed for magnesium chloride hexahydrate recovery [10], which occurs at a density of 1.26g/cm. This is later converted to metallic magnesium [12]. The Dead Sea brines are processed primarily for potassium chloride (potash), but are also worked for sodium and magnesium chlorides and derived products such as bromine and hydrochloric acid [16] (Sections 6.2.2 and 8.8). [Pg.177]

The methyl ester 1 was prepared by coupling (5)-proline with o-toluic acid, via the corresponding acyl chloride, and derivation of the acid obtained to the methyl ester, as described in the previous report [7]. [Pg.216]
