Broad spectrum component approach

On the other hand, there is the broad spectrum component approach. The component approach is best used to compare environmental systems with each other and to see the extent of pollution or how it may be decreased. With the broad spectrum approach, we want to interface the presence of effect-causing compounds, which might not be a substantial part of the extract, with the presence of other industrial compounds in the extract. 

It should be also noted that, in a very recent publication, Liu and coworkers were successful in applying microwave radiation within their domino approach towards the synthesis of pyrrolo[2,l-fc]quinazoline alkaloids such as deoxyvasicinone, 8-hy-droxydeoxyvasicinone, mackinazolinone and isaindigotone, which exhibit a promising broad spectrum of biological activities. In the case of isaindigotone, the authors were able to extend their strategy to a three-component procedure, which comprises the domino conversion of anthranilic acids and Boc-protected amino acids into the tricyclic core skeleton [43]. 

The multicomponent spectral fitting approach has been the most successful for a broad range of sample types [ 153,154]. A linear combination of spectra of all of the individual components (elemental ions and polyatomic ions) is optimized for best fit of the experimental spectrum. Model spectra are determined from the natural abundances of the elements and polyatomic model spectra are calculated from the isotopic abundances of the individual element isotopes. Therefore, experimental model spectra are not required.
