Polyaniline, boronic acid substituted

Recently, Fabre et al. [31] and Freund et al. [7, 8] used electro-chemically deposited, self-doped, boronic-acid-substituted, conducting polymers for saccharide and fluoride detection. Freund et al. prepared a potentiometric sensor for saccharides using self-doped PABA [7, 8]. The transduction mechanism in that system is reportedly the change in pKa of polyaniline that accompanies complexation, and the resulting change in the electrochemical potential. Sensors produced with this approach exhibit reversible responses with selectivity to various saccharides and 1,2-diols (Figure 3.22) that reflect their binding constants with phenylboronic acid observed in bulk solutions. The sensitivity... [Pg.188]

Some measurements of this property have been made in a range of electrically conducting polymers. These include epoxy resin/polyaniline-dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid blends [38], polystyrene-black polyphenylene oxide copolymers [38], semiconductor-based polypyrroles [33], titanocene polyesters [40], boron-containing polyvinyl alcohol [41], copper-filled epoxy resin [42], polyethylidene dioxy thiophene-polystyrene sulfonate, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene oxide [43], polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene composites [44], polyethylene oxide complexes with sodium lanthanum tetra-fluoride [45], chlorine-substituted polyaniline [46], polyvinyl pyrolidine-polyvinyl alcohol coupled with potassium bromate tetrafluoromethane sulfonamide [47], doped polystyrene block polyethylene [38, 39], polypyrrole [48], polyaniline-polyamide composites [49], and polydimethyl siloxane-polypyrrole composites [50]. [Pg.135]

A factor hindering the expansion of polyaniline chemistry to date has been the lack of a generic route to variously substituted derivatives. An exciting development in this respect is the recent synthesis of the novel poly(aniline boronic acid). Aromatic boronic acids are versatile chemical precursors undergoing a wide range of transformations, which provides a facile route to a range of substituted PAns that are difficult to synthesize... [Pg.148]
