Books omics

This book picks up the array technology journey from the mid-1990s with the introduction of microarray-based gene expression analysis. The global analysis of genes by microarrays has provided a fresh and exciting view of the cellular process. More importantly, it enabled others to consider similar utility in various "omic" fields. Hence, we have witnessed the emergence of protein arrays to address proteomics. 

The MAGE has built within it a controlled vocabulary that is used to standardize communication between data providers. However, MAGE can also be extended to encode other types of omic data beyond genomics, such as proteomic data, so long as a reference to the ontology or controlled vocabulary is provided. Although a description of the extension mechanism is beyond scope of this book, practitioners must become familiar with it in order to ensure their software products and applications will be able to accept any and all annotation data that may be submitted with the genomic data. 

We hope that you will find this book a useful approach to the subject of bioanalytical chemistry and that it will help raise awareness of the vast scope and topics encompassed in what is a rapidly expanding and advancing field. Moreover, we hope that studying the content of this book will provide a fundamental introduction to the tools adopted by life and health scientists in the evolving and exciting new age of omics , with the promise of personalized medicine and novel approaches to the screening, diagnosis, treatment, cure and prevention of disease.

Nutrigenomics is the consideration of how food and nutrition are influenced by genomics (remember again the fava beans of Chapter 2) and how particular diets can help overcome some consequences of genomic differences. We touch on this omic sporadically in this book.
