Universal bonding agents

Representative shear bond strength ranges for the bonding agents discussed in the foregoing are listed in Table 5, and the structural representations and universally used abbreviations for the principal methacrylate and dimethacrylate monomers are found in Tables 6 and 7. Detailed characterization techniques for methacrylates and derived polymers have been described by Ruyter and 0ysaed [62]. 

The only element that was discovered in body fluids (urine). This is plausible, as P plays a main role in all life processes. It is one of the five elements that make up DNA (besides C, H, N, and 0 evolution did not require anything else to code all life). The P-O-P bond, phosphoric acid anhydride, is the universal energy currency in cells. The skeletons of mammals consists of Ca phosphate (hydroxylapatite). The element is encountered in several allotropic modifications white phosphorus (soft, pyrophoric P4, very toxic), red phosphorus (nontoxic, used to make the striking surface of matchboxes), black phosphorus (formed under high pressures). Phosphates are indispensable as fertilizer, but less desirable in washing agents as the waste water is too concentrated with this substance (eutrophication). It has a rich chemistry, is the basis for powerful insecticides, but also for warfare agents. A versatile element. 

The first experiments on chemoautotrophic theory were carried out by Stetter at the University of Regensburg. It was found that synergy in the FeS/H2S system determined the reductive effect, for example, in the conversion of nitrate to ammonia or of alkynes to alkenes. The conditions used corresponded to those present in hydrothermal systems aqueous phase, 373 K, almost neutral pH and anaerobic conditions (Blochl et al 1992). Two years later, the formation of an amide bond without the use of a condensation agent was successfully demonstrated in the same laboratory (Keller et al 1994). 

This Universal Light, when considered particularly as the main metal-forming agent, is called Azoth, or Sophie Mercury. It is the menstrum, the Universal Solvent, the bond of union, or in less mystic terms, the Cosmic Ether dynamized.

It is most desirable that a given amino acid should form a single-derivative peak after treatment with a single derivatization agent. Unfortunately, that is not the case for many important determinations. Thus, for example, permethylation [481] and the formation of W-dimethylaminomethylene alkyl esters [482] appeared limited to only some amino acids. Persilylation of all amino acid functional groups with potent silyl donors [483] comes perhaps closest to definition of a universal reaction , but even here some problems are encountered (a) derivatization can be time-consuming (b) multiple derivatives are occasionally formed even under precautions (c) Si-N bonds are moisture-sensitive and (d) truly quantitative derivatization is difficult to achieve for all protein amino acids.
