Blasting systems

Once detected, PVC bottles are pneumatically jettisoned from the commingled bottle feed-stream by a microprocessor-based air-blast system. 

Another example is a system made by National Recovery Technologies (NRT) Inc. (Nashville, TN) [72]. This apparatus incorporates a proprietary electromagnetic screening process that also detects the presence of chlorine as found in PVC bottles. Once detected, PVC bottles are pneumatically jettisoned from the commingled bottle feed stream by a microprocessor-based air-blast system. The NRT technology permits bottles to be delivered to the unit in a mass sort concept in either crushed or whole form. This system does not require any special positioning or orientation of the bottles in order to achieve high efficiency rates. 

There are no commercial powder blasting systems available because there is not such a market. Only a few places worldwide have utilized this technique. There are companies that can make custom-designed powder blasting systems. They only make to order. However, there are some companies, such as Micronit in the Netherlands, which provide powder blast micromachining services. 

Several specialty mechanical blasting systems have been developed over the years for applications where standard grit blasting is not appropriate. These methods include cryogenic, hydrodynamic, and polymeric blasting. 

During transit from the wet blast section to the phosphating plant the work pieces are covered with water so eliminating the possibility of oxidation of the components. A rust inhibitor in the blast system also prevents the oxidation of the components.
