Biotechnologies biomolecules

The types of molecules synthesized by biotechnological techniques are restricted to those biomolecules whose stmctures can be encoded in the DNA of organisms capable of translating them into functional nanomaterials. Other types of molecules and nanomaterials can be synthesized by chemical synthetic approaches, such as covalent syntheses and molecular self-assembly of molecular units. [Pg.206]

To understand the extraordinary potential for DNA to be utilized as a material in construction processes, the general properties of this biomolecule will first be discussed. In addition, examples of naturally occurring nucleic acid-based nanostructures will be described that are of great importance both for cellular processes and conventional applications in molecular biotechnology. [Pg.392]

With the introduction of new building technologies, namely application of synthetic polymeric additives, the natural organic additives gradually disappeared [24]. At present, builders are returning to them in particular, biomolecules (saccharides and their derivatives, oils, waxes, etc.) produced by biotechnological procedures have been reintroduced [25]. [Pg.169]

Bioanalysis may be defined as laboratory analysis of biomolecules. Biomolecules, in turn, are organic compounds with biological activity, generally important only in biological systems, or cells. Biochemistry is the study of structure and function of biomolecules. Biotechnology, a related concept, concerns the industrial applications of biochemical techniques. Thus bioanalysis, biochemistry, and biotechnology are closely related concepts, all concerned primarily with biomolecules. [Pg.465]

Hydrostatic pressure has not only been used as a physical parameter for studying the stability and energetics of biomolecular systems, but also because high pressure is an important feature of certain natural membrane environments (e.g., of marine biotopes in the deep sea) and because the high pressure phase behaviour of biomolecules is of biotechnological interest (e.g., for high pressure food processing). ... [Pg.165]
