Table 23-1 lists the anthropogenic and biogenic halocarbons which have been found dissolved in seawater. The large number of compounds, all with similar physico-chemical properties and concentration ranges in the fmol/L to pmol/L range, indicate that an analytical method capable of measuring all of them simultaneously must combine the highest possible separation power with extreme sensitivity.
