Binders tape casting

The thickness of the tape is controUed by the sHp characteristics, the height of the doctor blade, the casting rate, and the pressure head of the sHp reservoir behind the doctor blade. SHp viscosities in the range of 1 5 Pa-s (10—50 P) are used to cast tapes at 5—100 cm/s. To achieve the desired strength and flexibUity in the green tape, tape casting slurries contain more binder than those used in sHp casting, as weU as a plasticizer to ensure flexibUity. 

As mentioned in the previous paragraph, binder and plasticizer concentrations for tape casting are much higher than for slip casting and for most other types of slurry...

Ceramic foils are produced continuously by tape-casting methods. These ceramic tapes consist of an organic binder and oxide powder material, for example, zirconia, titania or alumina. If it is possible to integrate the production process of a micro structured reactor into such a continuous process, production costs would decrease strongly. An early approach used unstructured ceramic foils to build up a micro reactor [159], The reactor consisted essentially of two functional layers, a reaction layer and a heating layer (Figure 4.102).

For planar sensors manufactured by multilayer technology, the recently developed ceramic tape casting process was improved further [17, 18]. ZrOz powder is mixed into an organic matrix of binders, plasticizers, and solvents and is tape cast onto a Mylar supporting tape or a steel belt After drying, the ceramic tape is separated from the support tape and the flexible green tape can be punched to form individual substrates.
