Binders selection

Rotogravure Inks. Since there are no mbber or plastic components in contact with the solvents contained in gravure ink formulations, it is permissible to use solvents such as ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons which cannot be tolerated in flexo inks. This provides the gravure ink formulator with much greater latitude in regard to binder selection. In other respects the compositions generally are similar. [Pg.251]

Binder selection depends on the ceramic powder, the size of the part, how it is formed, and the green density and strength requited. Binder concentration is deterrnined by these variables and the particle size, size distribution, and surface area of the ceramic powder. Three percent binder, based on dry weight, generally works for dry pressing and extmsion. [Pg.307]

Colorant systems are available in several forms, and it is a good idea at this juncture to establish with the customer the method they prefer to use to introduce color into their molded or extruded part. Colorant system form may have an influence on colorant selection and will influence additives and binder selection. Colorant systems are available in the following forms ... [Pg.264]

This primer can be applied by brush, spray, or dipping and it functions by both improving the adhesion of subsequently apphed top coatings and by reducing the risk of underfilm corrosion. Paints used as the final coats are referred to as finishes or top coats. They are based on binders selected to withstand the conditions likely ... [Pg.243]

In tablet formulations, freshly prepared starch paste is used at a concentration of 5-25% w/w in tablet granulations as a binder. Selection of the quantity required in a given system is determined by optimization studies, using parameters such as granule friability, tablet friability, hardness, disintegration rate, and drug dissolution rate. [Pg.725]

The binder selected also has implications for coating operations as it would be more advantageous to use a binder with a lower elastic recovery as this would diminish the likelihood that the common problems of tablet coating uniformity and cracking would occur. Figure 2 shows the positive correlation between the percentage of elastic recovery and the residual die wall pressure measured by compression of wet granulated... [Pg.275]

In addition to the above test, the pendulum (Vialit) test (CEN EN 13588 2008) may also be carried out for binder selection. The test gives a measure of the ability of a binder to resist traffic stress. Some details for the test are given in Section 3.7.3.8. [Pg.685]

Two basic approaches have been used in water-based tape casting. These approaches differ in the types of binder selected. In organic systems, all binders used were soluble in at least one of the vehicles chosen. This same approach in the water-based area leads to the use of water-soluble film formers, including certain celluloses, vinyls, and acids. The second approach is to stick with the polymer families we know well (acrylates and vinyls) and to form water-based emulsions of these resins. A caution must be issued at this point due to the fact that many in the field consider emulsions to be water soluble. [Pg.227]
