Storage bins

Assume a bin storage time of 8 hr. Therefore, the bulk solids volume is 8(1,200) = 9,600 ft Assume an outage (gas space above the bulk solids) of 20%. Thus, the bin volume above the hopper = 9,600/ (1 - 0.20) = 12,000 ft Neglecting the volume of the hopper below the bin and assuming a cylindrical bin with a height equal to 150% of the diameter, the hopper dimensions are 22 ft in diameter by 33 ft high. From Table 16.32, the purchase cost of the bin in carbon steel is 450(12,000)° = 34,000. Because flakes may tend to mat and interlock, consideration should be given to the addition of a vibrator to the hopper. 

POLYETHYLENE. (CHjCHjln- Polyethylene has been handled in aluminum alloy equipment including weighing bins, blending bins, storage bins, and conveyor systems. Polyethylene has also been used as a covering on aluminum electrical conductor and in laminations with aluminum foil. See also Ref (3) p. 237,(7) p. 145. 

This example showed that the ALA composition cannot really be accurately predicted in LowLin canola by NIR. However, the NIR technique is still useful for such analyses, since it can segregate the canola seeds into high, medium and low, based on their ALA content. This is very useful at the grain elevator level where bin storage has to be decided in minutes upon delivery. It is also a very useful tool for breeders who need to analyse thousands of samples every year in their programme. However, the technique is of limited use to determine the ALA content of a sample when a precise and accurate result is needed, such as a nutrition study for example. 

A comparison of two thiadiazoles and two amine accelerators in CPE is shown in Table 13.11. Compound A shows that the first thiadiazole has a very fast cure that is useful in molded applications. The second thiadiazole has improved bin storage stability, particularly with the chemically stable amine, VANAX 882B. CPE compounds cured with the second thiadiazole are suitable for hose and tubing made by autoclave processes. Other thiadiazole derivatives for CPE are being investigated. 

Most additives that affect mix procedirres are reactive chemicals. To run a chemical reaction successfully in a Banbury internal mixer or other equipment, three variables need to be controlled time, temperature and stoichiometry (the ratio of the reactants). The effect of these variables on the chemical peptising of NR, SBR, polychloroprene (CR) and Thiokol polysulphide are discussed.
