Warfarin Bezafibrate

Several interactions between warfarin and hypohpidemic drugs have been described (SEDA-21, 459), including clinically important potentiation of warfarin by bezafibrate (73) and gemfibrozil (74). Two patients developed a significantly increased anticoagulant effect of warfarin while taking fenofibrate (75). 

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with amiloride, aminoglycosides, amphotericin B, ampicillin, anisindione, anticoagulants, armodafinil, atorvastatin, azathioprine, azithromycin, bacampicillin, basiliximab, bezafibrate, bosentan, bupropion, carbenicillin, caspofungin, cholestyramine, clarithromycin, cloxacillin, co-trimoxazole, corticosteroids, cyclophosphamide, daclizumab, danazol, dicloxacillin, dicumarol, digoxin, diltiazem, disulfiram, echinacea, erythromycin, ethotoin, etoposide, ezetimibe, flunisolide, fluoxymesterone, fluvastatin, foscarnet, fosphenytoin, gemfibrozil, hemophilus B vaccine, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, imatinib, imipenem/cilastatin, influenza vaccines, ketoconazole, lanreotide, lopinavir, lovastatin, mephenytoin, methicillin, methoxsalen, methylphenidate, methylprednisolone, methyltestosterone, mezlocillin, mizolastine, mycophenolate, nafcillin, nisoldipine, NSAIDs, orlistat, oxacillin, penicillins, phellodendron, phenytoin, pravastatin, prednisolone, prednisone, pristinamycin, ranolazine, red rice yeast, rifabutin, rifampin, rifapentine, ritonavir, rosuvastatin, simvastatin, sirolimus, spironolactone, St John s wort, sulfacetamide, sulfadiazine, sulfamethoxazole, sulfisoxazole, sulfonamides, tacrolimus, telithromycin, tenoxicam, testosterone, ticarcillin, tolvaptan, trabectedin, triamterene, troleandomycin, ursodeoxycholic acid, vaccines, vecuronium, warfarin, zofenopril... 

A patient (with hypoalbuminaemia due to nephrotic syndrome and chronic renal failure) stabilised on acenocoumarol developed severe hae-matemesis with an INR of 25.9, two weeks after starting to take bezafibrate 800 mg daily. A woman stabilised on warfarin and bezafibrate 400 mg daily had an increase in her INR to 5.29 after being given an incorrect double dose of bezafibrate for a few days, and a man had a reduced response to warfarin (INR 1.5) when he stopped taking bezafibrate for a week. ...
