Between groups research

Many of the frontier research questions outlined in Chapters 4 and 5 can be profitably attacked by adequately supported groups led by a single principal investigator or by multidisciplinary collaborations between small research groups. 

Once a method has been developed and validated, it should be transferred to each site that intends to use the method. A typical method transfer would take place between the research group that developed and validated the method and the QC group that will use the method to release the finished commercial product, although method transfer may occur at any point where knowledge moves from one group to another. As in the case of method validation, method transfer should be performed under the control of a protocol that details the steps required for the study. 

We started by distinguishing between groups and teams by examining recent definitions from current teamwork research. One key difference is that working groups rely on individual contribution and accountability, whereas teams rely on combined effort and mutual accountability. These distinctions led to a discussion of team ground rules and how they help align expectations. 

A less explored area of transition metal catalysis involves bond formation between Group 14 elements and nitrogen. In direct analogy to previously discussed areas of research, silicon-nitrogen bonds can be formed by dehydrocoupling, hydrosilylation, and dehydrogenative silylation. The compounds produced are valuable for use in organic synthesis or as polymer precursors to silicon nitride ceramics. 

The actual algorithm for evaluating Hjj varies greatly between different research groups. The crudest, but most general, approach is to assume each configuration is formed as a short sum of Slater determinants... 

The prevalence studies noted above only consider the general population without regard for differences between specific groups. Research has identified many characteristics that may influence the frequency/severity of insomnia complaints including age, gender, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity. 

Salomon and Clark (1977) called many studies of media research with media, meaning that some other issue was really at the heart of any differences observed between groups of students. According to Clark, some studies used the medium as a conveyance of some other treatment, and sometimes the difference in medium was mistakenly given credit for any benefits to students. Media attributes, rather than media per se, were dealt with, and a strong need for conceptualizing these attributes in terms of their effects and functions was suggested, wrote Salomon and Clark (1977, p. 116). 

Similar in spirit, but aimed at a very different community, is the work at Leeds, carried out jointly between the research groups of Peter Dew in computing and Mike Pilling in chemistry. One important focus here is on distributing the computational task of modelling chemical reaction processes in reaction kinetics, combustion, and... 

Only if the research proposal indicates that the programme will interview indigenous people does COSTECH request a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the researchers and the indigenous group. 

The discoveries that generated the extensive news coverage in early 1987 were the initial report of superconductivity in the lanthanum compound by Bednorz and Muller,and the observation of superconductivity in the compound YBa2Cu307 at 92-94 K, well above the boihng point (77 K) of liquid nitrogen. The latter result was the outcome of a collaboration between the research groups of C. W. Chu of the University of Houston and M. K. Wu of the University of Alabama.
