Fluoro and 3- or 5-nitro-2-chloropyridine A-oxides may be converted to the corresponding l-benzoyloxy-2-pyridones by reaction with benzoic acid alone. [Pg.215]

There is little information for fluoro-substituted sulfinyl groups. Values of a and ffp for SOCFj based on benzoic acid ionization are 0.63 and 0.69 respectively , compared with values of about 0.52 and 0.49 for SOMe (Table 3). Thus the electronegative fluorine somewhat enhances the electron-attracting influence of the sulfinyl function and makes the order more definitely sulfur lone pair to engage in 7t(pp) conjugation. Values of and ffp for SOCF3 based on anilinium ion dissociation are 0.76 and 1.05 respectively . An increase of 0.13 as between and [Pg.509]

A limited number of pure substances are available from NIST, primarily clini-cally-relevant compounds such as cholesterol, urea, uric acid, creatinine, glucose, cortisol, tripalmitin, and bilirubin (NIST SRM website). These compounds are certified for purity (greater than 99 %) and are used as primary calibrants in definitive methods for these clinical analytes (see below). Several additional pure substances are available for specific applications such as microchemistry, i.e. elemental composition (acetanilide, anisic acid, cystine nicotinic acid, o-bromobenzoic acid, p-fluoro-benzoic acid, m-chlorobenzoic acid), polarimetric standards (sucrose and dextrose), acidimetric standard (benzoic acid and boric acid). Only three pure substance NIST RMs are available for environmental contaminants, namely the chlorinated pesticides, lindane, 4,4 -DDT, and 4,4 -DDE. [Pg.85]

Another example of 19F coupling, this time in an aromatic system, (4-fluoro benzoic acid) is shown in Spectrum 6.11. Note how the 19F couplings to the aromatic protons give the AA BB system an... [Pg.84]

The regioselectivity of a Rhodococcus rhodochrous nitrilase has been demonstrated for the conversion of 5-fluoro-l,3-dicyanobenzene to 5-fluoro-3-cyano-benzoic acid [62]. The nitrilase was expressed in an Escherichia coli transformant, and a cell-free extract was employed as catalyst (0.14wt% cell-free extract) in 0.1m sodium phosphate buffer (pH 7.2) at 25 °C containing 0.18 m 5-fluoro-l,3-dicyanobenzene. After 72 h, the conversion was >98% and the reaction was stopped by addition of phosphoric acid (pH 2.4) to yield 5-fluoro-3-cyano-benzoic acid as a crystalline product (97% isolated yield). [Pg.183]

Amino-3-fluorobenzoic acid is an important intermediate in the synthesis of derivatives of indole, such as the potent and selective thromboxane/prostaglandin endoperoxide receptor antagonist L-670,5964 or the anti-inflammatory agent Etodolac.5 Compounds of this type have therapeutic applications. 2-Amino-3-fluoro-benzoic acid is also an important precursor for the synthesis of fluoroacridines, which can be converted to interesting tridentate ligands, such as Acriphos.6... [Pg.202]

The fluorination of other activated aromatic compounds, such as anisole and phenol, undergo monofluorination mainly in the ortho and para positions, whereas the fluorination of deactivated aromatics, such as nitrobenzene, trifluoromethylbenzene and benzoic acid, give predominantly the corresponding meta fluoro-derivatives which is consistent with a typical electrophilic substitution process. Also, fluoro-, chloro- and bromo-benzenes are deactivated with respect to benzene itself but are fluorinated preferentially in the ortho and para positions [139]. At higher temperatures, polychlorobenzenes undergo substitution and addition of fluorine to give chlorofluorocyclohexanes [136]. [Pg.22]

Intramolecular cyclisation of the azides (79) by refluxing in toluene has produced the [ 1,2,3]triazolo[ 1,5-u][ 1,4]diazepines (80) <95S647>. Removal of the Boc protecting group in the benzodiazepine derivative (81), prepared in three steps from 2-fluoro-5-nitro-benzoic acid, results in ring expansion to (82) via a Smiles rearrangement <95SL539>. [Pg.310]

Several routes to benz[c]acridines involve electrophilic aromatic substitution to form the heterocyclic ring. Thus, 9-nitrobenz[c]acridine results from the cyclisation of the 2-(l-naphtlylamino)benzaldehyde derived from 1-naphthylamine and 2-fluoro-5-nitrobenzaldehyde (J. Rosevear and J.F.K. Wilshire, Austral. J. Qiem., 1981, 34, 839). The reaction between a ff-aryl-l-naphthylamine and acetic anhydride has been used to synthesise 9- and ll-hydroxy-7-methylbenz[c]acridines and cyclisation of partially reduced 2-(l-naphtltylamino)benzoic acid by phosphorus oxychloride affords the 7-chloro-l,2,3,4-tetralydro derivative (B.V. Lap et ai,y J. heterocyclic Chem., 1983, 20, 281). [Pg.85]

To purify the fluorobenzoic acid, it is dissolved in hot dilute potassium carbonate solution (40 g. in 400 cc.) and the solution is treated with norite (decolorizing carbon) and filtered hot. Hydrochloric acid is added with stirring to precipitate the fluoro-benzoic acid, which is then cooled, filtered, and dried. [Pg.28]

The acid chloride of tetra-fluoro benzoic acid 203 acylated the magnesium enolate 204 of diethyl malonate to give 205. The chelated magnesium enolate avoids O-acylation. Condensation with ethyl orthoformate puts in the masked aldehyde group and 206 is ready for a succession of aromatic nucleophilic substitutions.39... [Pg.484]
