Non-soap greases using finely divided solids as thickeners are useful as lubricants at elevated temperatures. Materials used include organO Clays such as dimethyldioctyl-decyl-ammonium bentonite (Bentone greases) or selected dyestuffs which produce brightly coloured greases. [Pg.242]

Bentone-34 has commonly been used in packed columns (138—139). The retention indices of many benzene homologues on squalane have been determined (140). Gas chromatography of C —aromatic compounds using a Ucon B550X-coated capillary column is discussed in Reference 141. A variety of other separation media have also been used, including phthaUc acids (142), Hquid crystals (143), and Werner complexes (144). Gel permeation chromatography of alkylbenzenes and the separation of the Cg aromatics treated with zeofltes ate described in References 145—148. [Pg.424]

The product is analyzed by vapor phase chromatography using a 6-ft., f-in. O.D. copper tube, packed with 5% Bentone-34 (Wilkins Instrument Co.) and 0.5% XF-1150 (General Electric Silicone Products) on Diatoport-S (80-100 mesh) (F and M Co.) flow rate of helium 60 ml./min., oven temperature 85°. This column separates m-cymene (retention time 12 minutes) from />-cymene (retention time 10 minutes) but does not resolve the ortho isomer. The purity of the distilled w-cymene is above 98%. [Pg.43]

There have been several papers on Ag oxalate— Ag2C204- Macdonald and Hinshelwood (Ref 7) confirmed the Berthelot equation, according to which the only products of decompn of Ag oxalate are metallic Ag and C02. Benton and Cunningham (Ref 9) found that the rate of thermal decompn of Ag oxalate may be increased by previously exposing it to ultraviolet radiation. During the thermal decompn of Ag oxalate, fragments of metallic Ag are formed. This has been confirmed by conductivity measurements (Ref 10) or by X-ray examination (Ref 11). Tompkins (Ref 1.2) investigated the thermal decompn of Ag oxalate at 110—130°. Its decompn, in his opinion, is similar to that of Ba azide... [Pg.437]
