Salbutamol Bendroflumethiazide

Treatment with bendroflumethiazide, and presumably other diuretics, augments the hjrpokalemic and electrocardiographic effects of high-dose inhaled salbutamol the dysrhythmogenic potential of this interaction can be important in patients with acute exacerbations of chronic airflow obstruction, who have concomitant hjrpoxemia and ischemic heart disease (SEDA-15,134). [Pg.3096]

Beta agonists (e.g. fenoterol, salbutamol (albuterol), terbutaline) can cause hypokalaemia. This can be increased by other potassium-depleting drugs such as the corticosteroids, diuretics (e.g. bendroflumethiazide, furosemide) and theophylline. The risk of serious cardiac arrhythmias in asthmatic patients may be increased. [Pg.1162]

After 7 days of treatment with bendroflumethiazide 5 mg daily the serum potassium levels of 10 healthy subjects had fallen by 0.71 mmol/L. After taking 100 micrograms to 2 mg of inhaled salbutamol (albuterol) as well, the levels fell by 1.06 mmol/L, to 2.72 mmol/L. ECG changes consistent with hypokalaemia and hypomagnesaemia were seen. In an-... [Pg.1162]

A 73-year-old man presented with a dark coloured patchy macular pigmentation on the nasal columella. The patient had no personal or family history of skin cancer and was himself not aware of the lesion. His medical history consisted of asthma, peripheral vascular disease, hypertension and nocturnal leg cramps and had been on simvastatin, bendroflumethiazide, quinine, salbutamol and aspirin for several years. Histology of biopsy tissue showed evidence of sun-damaged skin with increased basal melanin pigmentation and pigment incontinence in the superficial dermis. There was no evidence of increased melanocyte numbers, dysplasia... [Pg.396]
