Beal studies

The classic seed burial studies of W. J. Beal and his successors have shown seeds of at least one weed species, Moth Mullein (Verbascum blattaria L.) can remain viable in soil for a peiod of 100 years, whereas three species continued to germinate after 80 years of burial (30). Weed seeds not only resist decay by soil microbes, but they vary in dormancy characteristics. There is considerable evidence that chemical inhibitors are responsible for both phenomena. Unsaturated lactones and phenolic compounds in particular, are potent antimicrobial compounds present in many seeds (4J. Fruits and seeds are also known to contain diverse germination inhibitors including phenolic compounds, flavonoids and/or their glycosides and tannins. Unique methods to destroy inhibitors could provide an excellent weed management strategy.

Yet another source of reports is to be found in some studies that are exploring ibogaine as a treatment for heroin dependency (see De Rienzo and Beal). This end-goal of searching for evidence of addiction confrontation and addiction control certainly can color any published reports in its own way. Here, its the chemical ibogaine only that is used, and typical dosages are at or above 1000 milligrams. 

Coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E are found in wheat germ. Furthermore, studies in mice have shown that administration of coenzyme Q10 elevate the level of mitochondrial a-tocopherol (Lass et al., 1999). Beal and his colleagues (2002) investigated the potential usefulness of coenzyme Q10 in animal models of PD, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and HD. The exact expressions for A p) and G p) are not known in the entire range of p and (2.75) is not strictly equivalent to (2.73), which can be seen only as an interpolation formula. Qualitatively, it is found that G p) and A p) increase when p increases towards pc- Near pc, one has A p) Pc—p) and G p) Pc — P) /lnp. Beale and Duxbury (1988) determined G p) near Pc, and by plotting ln(G(p)lnp) versus -ln p —pd, it is found that the value of the correlation length exponent i/ is around 1.15, in good agreement with the theoretical value. Bowman and Stroud (1989) also studied the above dependence of Eh on 1/lnL at p values very close to pc, and found its validity even at p = Pc. Of course, the quality of their data here is not very good, because of large fluctuations.
