Basidiomycete enzyme

In a number of species of Basidiomycetes enzymes are present which appear to be specific for the y-glutamyl derivatives occurring in the same species. However, it seems more likely that these enzymes are involved in degradation rather than in biosynthesis. [Pg.251]

Lenthionine has the characteristic shiitake flavor. It is formed from the precursor, lentinic acid 14 by complex reactions involving a C-S lyase enzyme.30 Cyclic polysulfides occur in other Basidiomycete mushrooms (Genus Micromp-hale and Colly bid), in some red alga, and in seeds of Parkia speciosa. The latter contain lenthionine and 1,2,4-trithiolane (1,2,4-trithiacyclopentane) 17 as well as compounds with 4, 5, or 6 sulfur atoms.31 These seeds are valued in Indonesia for a unique, onion-like odor. Djenkolic acid and dichrostachinic acid S -[(2-carboxy-2-hydroxyethylsulfonyl)-methyl]cysteine are converted by a C-S lyase enzyme to cyclic polysulfides djenkolic acid yields 1,2,4-trithiolane and 1,2,4,6-tetrathiepane the latter is also formed from dichrostachinic acid.32... [Pg.680]

This heme-dependent enzyme [EC 1.11.1.13] catalyzes the reaction of two Mn + with two and hydrogen peroxide to generate two Mn + and two water. The enzyme participates in the oxidative degradation of lignin in white rot basidiomycetes. [Pg.440]

The purpose of the present paper is to describe the aromatic ring cleavage of lignin substructure model compounds by white-rot basidiomycetes and by lignin peroxidase of P. chrysosporium. The aromatic ring cleavage of synthetic lignin (DHP) by the enzyme will also be described. [Pg.504]

Analysis of the genes for four cellulases of the basidiomycete T. reesei showed that these proteins had a bifunctional organization remarkably similar to that of Cex and CenA of C. fimi, and again with reversal of domain order in pairs of the four enzymes (16). [Pg.595]
